Passionate People are Good for Business

I call it my Chamber of Commerce talk. I’ll be speaking to a group of business leaders, CEOs, and people who own their own companies.

I’ll ask the group this question.  “You have a passion for your business, right?”

“Yeah!” Is typically the resounding reply.

I’ll follow up with “And you want people who work for you to have that same passion, right?”

“Yeah!!” will be the reply, even more ebullient and enthusiastic than the first.

I pause.

It’s a long pause.  Anticipation builds.

“Now he’s going to tell us how to find these passionate people!” is written on the faces of the audience.

“Get real.”   I finally say.

“You’re not going to find people who are passionate about your business.  Not the way you are.  It’s your business.  No one is going to have the same kind of passion that you have for your business!”

They all nod.  They know this.

Pause.   (It’s an even longer pause this time)

“But they will be passionate about something.”

“Let them be passionate.”  (Actually, don’t simply allow this.  Encourage it! Support it!)

“Let them be passionate about something.  Unless it’s a direct conflict with the work you do, the positive energy that passionate people bring to your business creates an energy that overflows with abundance.  It’s just plain good for business.”

This is a perspective that the great organizations of this third millennium will share.

I believe that we are living in a time and place of the greatest peace and prosperity in human history.  A golden age that people have been hoping and dreaming and praying for since they’ve been able to hope and dream and pray.

It’s exciting to observe this and it’s exhilarating to be part of making it happen!

There’s an old saying that some people make things happen, some watch what happens and others wonder what happened.  If you’re reading this, you’re at least watching what happens, and if you are an HR professional you are in a great place to make things happen for the companies you work for, and the people they serve.

Stay tuned, it gets even better!
